3 Simple Subject Line Tips – Get More to Open & Read

Out of all the research I’ve done on tips and tricks to increase your email messaging open and read rate, focusing on crafting a remark!able subject line is a critical ingredient to success.  Even your best customers scan their Inbox and decide within seconds whether or not the message is relevant to their needs.  If the subject line doesn’t speak to their current or future needs and interests, then you’ve potentially lost a repeat or new opportunity to get more business.

3 Simple Subject Line Tips

1. Include your Company’s Name or Product Brand in the Subject Line

This tip is especially important when you are targeting those who are active current customers or have purchased a product or service from you in the past and have given you permission to stay in touch via email.  They already know you and won’t regard it as a junk email solicitation.

2. Keep it Short and Inspired by Headlines

Research suggests your subject line should be 50 characters or less to maximize open rate.  To get ideas and inspiration for your opening line, hop on Amazon and look through best seller book titles or one of our favorite resources is Copyblogger online; check out their blog “5 Sure-Fire Sources for Headline Inspiration

3. Don’t Annoy Your Audience

Using all caps in the subject line is not only going to seem like you are shouting at the reader, but it also could ping the spam detectors and your email won’t make it to their Inbox.   Also avoid sounding like you are desperately shouting out a sales pitch like a used car salesman.  Craft a headline that will inform, educate, and entice to open and read more.
