I received a suspicious email, what do I do?

Please forward us the header information. Do not directly forward the suspicious email to us. It will lose the important header information.

If you’d like to do some investigating on your own, you can obtain the header information and use the Postini Header Analyzer to see why it went through to your Inbox.

The header information can be sent as follows:

SmarterMail
Outlook
Outlook Express
Vista Mail
Mac Mail

SmarterMail: sending header information

  1. Log into SmarterMail by going to mail.yourdomain.com
  2. Open the email in question
  3. In the top right corner, click on header
  4. Copy the header text and send it to us

Outlook: sending header information

There are two ways to send header information in Outlook

Copy the header information
1. Open the email in question
2. Go to Options > Message Options
3. Copy the entire text in the grey box. This is the header information.

Attach the email
Outlook 2003/XP
1. Create a new email
2. Click on the the email in question and drag it to the new email you created. It will now attach itself.

Outlook 2007
1. Open the email in question
2. Go to Actions > Other Actions
3. Select Forward As Attachment

Do not forward the email in question. It will lose its header information.

Outlook Express: sending header information

Right-click the message that you want to forward. In the context menu that appears, click ‘Forward as Attachment’ (this is also available from the ‘Message’ menu) at the top of the screen. Type the destination email address and press ‘send’.

If you want to send multiple messages, you can also drag and drop messages onto the message window. You can also select multiple messages by holding the ‘Shift’ or ‘Ctrl’ keys when clicking, and then right-click and ‘Forward as Attachment’ as above.

Vista Mail: sending header information

Mac Mail: sending header information

Open the message you want to forward. Under the ‘View’ menu, select ‘Message’ > ‘Long headers’ (for OS X 10.2, Jaguar it is ‘View’ > ‘Show all headers’.) Then click ‘Forward’, type the destination address and send. Alternatively, the drag and drop methods above should work.
