WordPress has great features for managing individual images or a small gallery of photos, but organizing a large collection of photos can be difficult. Luckily there are some excellent plugins such as NextGen Gallery that can add even greater image management functionality.
NextGEN Gallery
With the NextGEN Gallery plugin you are able to easily create multiple photo galleries and organize those galleries into photo albums. NextGEN Gallery has built in support for many features such as photo lightbox presentations and Flash slideshows.
This plugin makes it possible better organize large photo collections. You might create an album called Events, and that album could contain a photo gallery for each specific event. Other separate albums could be created to hold different types of galleries.
With the click of a button these albums, galleries, and individual photos can be added to any WordPress post or page in a list or thumbnail view, or as a Flash slideshow.

Hi Josh,
This question is not on NexGen but on Media/Content Management for our blog. Lately I have been having problems uploading photos and embedding video into our blog. The sizing is too big and it takes over the blog. I have been able to manually manipulate the size of the photos down (using the percent sizing thing). But when I embed even the smallest size Youtube video 560×340, it is too wide for our blog, and does not fit in the column. It always worked before…Do you think we need to upgrade WordPress or is it a different issue? We have several new YouTube vids I would like to put on the blog, but haven’t because of this issue.
Hi Jackie, it’s always a good idea to keep WordPress updated, but you don’t need to update anything to resolve these problems.
WordPress now has an auto-embed feature for videos. You don’t need to paste in the embed code, just the link to the YouTube video, and WordPress will embed it for you.
I checked, and the auto-embed feature was set to the incorrect size. I changed this setting so that your videos will fit the content column correctly.
There was a similar problem with the photos, there are four image sizes; thumbnail, medium, large, and full size. None of these were quite right to fit your column width, so I changed the large size, if you choose that one, it will fit correctly.
I made a media demo post to make sure the sizes are correct, it is saved as a draft if you’d like to see how it works.
Wow, awesome! Thanks Josh! You are my hero today : )
No problem, glad to help.
