We don’t need to tell you that Facebook is making more changes. If you have logged in to Facebook in the last week you have noticed them, either by the changed news feed, or by the frustrated status updates of your friends. If you are a person who does not adapt well to change, you may want to get some support or create a friends list of Facebook friends you can vent to. The rumors are that Facebook is about to make HUGE changes today, so they have just priming you up for the big stuff.
Some of the changes we have noticed so far this week:
- Addition of the “subscribe” button that allows you to follow someone without being friends
- Smarter news feed highlights your “top” stories, or recent stories since you logged in last
- Real-time news ticker in the right column
- Improved friends’ lists including Smart Lists
- Better layout of photos in news feeds
- Facebook status update increase from 500 characters to 5000
- Pages no longer need 25 likes to get a custom URL
What’s Interesting about the News Feed Changes
Whether you login to Facebook every 2 hours or 2 weeks, the new Facebook newsfeed will show you the big events you have missed since the last time you logged in. So the people who are not the heavy Facebook users may feel more connected and engage more frequently. Before they may have missed what was important to them after a long absence.
More Big News Today?
Today is supposed to be a game-changing day in Facebook history, as they roll out new features.
According to Mashable’s Ben Parr, “I have seen what Facebook is launching on Thursday, and it’s going to change the world of social media. And while I won’t talk about the mind-boggling things Facebook will be launching, I will say this: The Facebook you know and (don’t) love will be forever transformed.”
Whether these changes have been long-in-the-making, or competitor-induced, the fact of the matter is that Google+ has changed the playing field a bit. Now with a viable competitor in it’s midst, who just opened up it’s invitation-only social network to the public on Tuesday, I think Facebook is feeling the heat to step up it’s efforts.
What do you think? What else is to come? Let us know in the comments below what you think of the changes as you see them roll out on your Facebook.
