WordPress and Internet Explorer 9 Compatability

Are you an early adopter of new browsers?  The new version of Internet Explore 9 is out and it brings with it several new features.  However, if you have been deliquent at upgrading your version of WordPress, you may have problems editing your site.  But don’t worry – people viewing your site will see it fine.

A few people have reported problems editing earlier versions of WordPress (if you are using 3.1 you are fine) with IE9.

What Can You Do?

You have three options:

  1. OPTION 1: Switch to FireFox or Google Chrome.  Both great web broswers.
  2. OPTION 2: Adjust the settings in IE9.
    • Log into WordPress
    • Press the ‘Alt’ button.  This will bring up a new menu at the top of your browser.
    • Click on “Tools” and then “Compatabily View”  This will make your browser compatabile on older versions of WordPress.
  3. OPTION 3: Upgrade to the newest version of WordPress.  The best way to ensure compatability and optimal security for your website is to use the latest version of WordPress.

  1. I am using the latest version of WordPress with IE9; however, I am getting some strange looking pages when I am logged into the wp-admin. It appears that no CSS is applied to the some of the pages. When I first logged into WordPress before I saw the strange CSS stuff…I had a warning that said that I am using an old version of IE, which I am not…

  3. Thank you so much for this article. I was having problems with my WordPress site not showing the Post titles under Featured Content. I conducted a Google search and found your article. I upgrade my WordPress version and I took the step Tools – Compatability View. My problem was solved! I share this information with my FB readers who alerted me to the viewing problem. Thanks again!

  4. Steve, I never saw this reply until now. I must have gotten things figured out. I appreciate your offer to help though, that was awesome!
